New Position
I have a new role with the Canada Council for the Arts at their southern Alberta Arts Liaison consultant.
"The Alberta Focus Initiative is a two-year commitment that aims to strengthen engagement and collaboration with Alberta’s vibrant arts community, as well as to deepen the Council’s understanding of the community’s unique realities. Two Alberta-based arts liaison consultants will establish an on-the-ground presence for the Canada Council in Alberta. The consultants will engage with communities across the province to increase awareness of and access to funding opportunities and provide the Council with field intelligence. They will ensure that meaningful support is accessible to a diverse range of artists and arts organizations, particularly in communities that have been historically underserved."

As part of my role with the Canada Council, I will be interacting with rural Alberta communities, and the urban and rural Indigenous Alberta arts community, and the southern Alberta communities directly and in person, providing information on granting programs and funding opportunities and looking for ways to make Alberta artists voices heard.
Email me at Francine.Cunningham.consultant@canadacouncil.ca for more information or book some time with me.

What if Bedtime Didn't Exist? has been chosen as one of the 2024 TD Summer Reads Program kids books! This means my book will be in over 2200 libraries across Canada and will be used by kids all summer for their reading challenges. How fun!

For the 2023/2024 academic year I am the writer in residence at the University of Calgary. This position means I have the time, space, and resources to work on my next book while at the same time being able to engage in the literary community in Calgary in a fun way. I am making classroom visits around the city, reading at book clubs and literary events, as well as hosting a monthly online book club and an online Indigenous writing circle. I am also available for community manuscript consultations in which I will read up to 15 pages of your work and give you feedback in a one on one zoom conversation.

This is a very fun and awesome residency and I am having a great time at the University!
